Statistical Information System Collaboration Community

Statistics Netherlands (CBS NL) Joins the Community

Statistics Netherlands (CBS NL) has officially joined the Statistical Information System Collaboration Community (SIS-CC), marking a significant step toward modernising its data dissemination and embracing the SDMX standard.

This decision follows the successful CBS.Stat pilot project, conducted in partnership with the OECD, which demonstrated the potential of the .Stat Suite as a robust, open-source solution to eventually replace the current CBS NL’s StatLine platform. The pilot explored SDMX‘s transformative role in standardising data and metadata processes, ensuring long-term sustainability and cross-domain harmonisation  for official statistics.

“We are very proud to welcome CBS, a leading statistical office, in our Community. Data innovation, driven by user research and enabled by a sound use of technology, are common foundations to build on in our joint quest for better data accessibility, modernised data lifecycle and inclusive data ecosystem.”

Eric Anvar (Head of Smart Data, OECD Statistics and Data Directorate, and Chair of the SIS-CC MLG)

The project focused on three core areas: technical deployment, data modelling, and functional enhancements. CBS NL’s team successfully implemented the .Stat Suite within a flexible architecture, gaining critical insights into SDMX-based workflows and metadata-driven data management. Key milestones included the integration of the Fusion Metadata Registry (FMR) with .Stat Suite, enhanced data lifecycle management, and alignment with community-driven standards. The project also emphasised capacity building, with CBS NL staff completing certifications in SDMX data modelling and technology deployment through the .Stat Academy.

By joining SIS-CC, CBS NL solidifies its commitment to a collaborative, community-driven approach for advancing its data management and dissemination. As a Tier-1 member, CBS NL will contribute to shaping the .Stat Suite’s roadmap while leveraging the SIS-CC’s collective expertise to streamline its migration and data harmonisation efforts. This partnership underscores CBS NL’s ambition to establish an SDMX backbone, enhancing the accessibility, usability, and global interoperability of its statistical data.

“We are excited to join the SIS-CC community and look forward to collaborating as we move forward. By leveraging statistical data and insights online, we aim to contribute meaningful value for all.
